Windows 2000

Windows 2000 (W2k) is one of the operating systems that students will use throughout their education at the university of limerick. It is a follow on from windows NT 5.0. Windows 2000 and linux are installed on all computers in CSIS building. Hence the name dual boot machines.

To use W2k you must have a computer account, i.e. an W2K Username and Password, which gives a student access to PC clusters, their Email Account, Print Account and the Internet. Your Username is your Student ID Number and your Password is created or changed using a valid student ID card swiped through the card readers on our Account Maintenance PCs.

Ensure that you create your computer account before you are scheduled for computer labs. See the Student IT Manual.

All students have access to the H: drive, which is a share drive, allowing you to view the contents of your folder no matter where you log on (even in Linux). There is a quota of 10 MB associated with this service. All files are backed up, so if you lose anything it may be possible to retrieve lost files, but only within one day of loss.
