Linux: Internet Access

Access to the Internet can be achieved using a variety of browsers Including Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, or Konqueror to mention a few. You will need to have access to the Internet for many of the Modules. At the moment you cannot access all pages on the World Wide Web. You will only have to do this once. To set up access follow these steps:

Open Netscape Navigator start->Internet->Netscape navigator
Go to the edit menu and choose preferences.
Go to the category called Advanced and display the menu by clicking on the triangle to the left of Advanced.
Select Manual proxy configuration.
Click on view.
In the box marked proxy, type: support.csis.ul.ie
Set port to 80.
Click on OK.
Click on OK in the Preferences Window.

If you are using Mozilla instead of Netscape the proxy will have to be configured as above. The same applies for any browser that you will be using on linux in any of the CSIS labs.
